Outdoor Rockets - with a bigger bang!

This is a little more tricky and requires a large outdoor area to launch the rocket, as heights of up to 80 metres are possible. An empty 2 litre soft drink or water bottle is turned upside down and into a space rocket! Participants spend some time on art and craft indoors to build the rocket, learning about the How's and Why's along the way, before heading outside to launch them (two at a time) into the air! This workshop does require larger hands and fingers to help with some of the art and craft assembly for the smaller children, but the excitement is still going sky high!

This activity is fully interactive and Seanie gets pupils to act as helpers during the session.

Duration:

1 hour 40 minutes.

Number of participants:

Typical classroom (teachers can take part too!), but it might be best to split larger classes into 2 sessions of 15 to 20 students each.

Requirements:

Participants must bring their own 2 litre bottle. There are various ones, and some will not work due to their neck/spout opening size. The best are Coca Cola, 7-Up, TK, Fanta, and Club Orange/Lemon/Rock Shandy. The classroom is used for the indoor part of the activity, and then moves to a large outdoor area for countdown and launch! Please ask for details if you are usure about the size of your venue's outsoor area(s).

Seanie Brings:

All art and craft materials (scissors, sellotapes, markers, googley eyes, paper, etc.), lots of water, 2 launchpads with manual air pumps. Participants can bring additional cardboard e.g. empty cereal boxes if they wish, for making additional fins and wings for their rocket.
